How to Calibrate Your Controller in Windows 10/11
Why Calibrate?
Sometimes your controller's analog sticks might not be centered perfectly (e.g., resting at 5% instead of 0%). The Windows Calibration Tool resets the center point and maximum range of your sticks, which can fix drift issues without buying a new device.
Step-by-Step Guide
Open the Run Dialog
Press Win + R on your keyboard to open the "Run" command box.
Launch the Game Controllers Panel
Type
joy.cplinto the box and press Enter or click OK. This opens the legacy Game Controllers settings window.Select Your Device
You should see your controller listed (e.g., "Xbox Controller" or "Wireless Controller"). Click it to highlight it, then click the Properties button.
Enter Calibration Mode
In the new window, navigate to the Settings tab at the top. Click the Calibrate... button.
Follow the Wizard
A wizard will appear. Click "Next" and follow the instructions:
- Leave the stick centered and press a button.
- Move the stick in full circles to hit all corners.
- Move the Z-Axis (Triggers) up and down.
Finish and Apply
Click "Finish" to close the wizard. Then click Apply on the main window. Your controller is now recalibrated.
